The dramatic skies, hills, moors
and fells are the inspiration behind the work of Stephen Lennon.
He records the changing light and seasons of his surroundings, from
the wild and mysterious Bronte country to the mountains of the Lake
District and from the soft rolling limestone Yorkshire Dales to
the rugged Pennine Moorland.
Born in 1953 in the cotton
town of Burnley in Lancashire, he always had a clear view of the
surrounding hills. His love of light and the drama of the elements
are clearly the roots of his work.
He has been described
as a painter in the "English Romantic Style", having been influenced
by artists like Turner and Samuel Palmer, but retains his Millstone
Grittiness in his representations of moorland and fell.
Stephen is a member of the British Watercolour Society, the Yorkshire
Watercolour Society and of the Leeds Fine Arts Club. Since his first
one man show in 1988 he has enjoyed increased success, exhibiting
throughout Britain and the USA, winning prizes and commissions as
his reputation grows.
